Scope and Contents

The Sandusky Ohio Labor Council collection documents only a few aspects of union activities during the years 1951 through 1964. The bulk of the records deal with the Labor Day Rally held annually in Sandusky. These records include the minutes (1952- 1959), correspondence (1951-1959), and financial statements (1953-1961) of the Labor Day Rally Committee, delegates credentials (1959), entertainment contracts (1953, 1955-1959), and news clippings (1952, 1953, 1956, n.d.).

Another record series is the correspondence of the Sandusky Ohio Labor Council (1956-1964) which includes correspondence with Sandusky City officials, congressional representatives, other unions, state and national AFL-CIO offices. Financial ledgers (1955-1959) provide insight into per capita dues of member unions and receipts and expenditures of the Council.

A very small set of handwritten minutes (May-October 1960) document the activities of the Council's Committee on Political Education (COPE) which mainly provided endorsements of political candidates.
