Scope and Contents

The records of the Forks Conservation Association offer a glimpse into the casual sportsmen events of Northwest Ohio in the mid-20th century as well as the operational activities of a membership organization. The collection contains minutes and correspondence from 1955 until 2012 as well as original membership cards, lists, and rosters. The collection also includes the deed and map of the Forks Conservation Club, the official rules and prices for amateur trapshooting, and event advertisements for national coon dog field races in the area. The trap-shoot records from 1998 to 1993 and the hunting permit tags sold between 1961 and 2001 demonstrate the popularity of hunting and fishing leisure activities during this time. The main strength of this collection is the membership records, but it also contains the original land deed, the association’s constitution and bylaws, the 1944 Articles of Incorporation document, and a 1955 to 1971 ledger.

Biographical / Historical

The Forks Conservation Association was established on May 1st, 1944 in Pemberville, Ohio by seven Pemberville, Ohio men. The association was formed to promote conservation and propagation of fish, game, and wildlife, to promote better relations between farmers and sportsmen, and to sell hunting and fishing licenses. Along with monthly meetings, members held annual coon dog field races and trap-shoot events. The organization moved from Pemberville, Ohio to Bowling Green Ohio in August 1994 and is still active today under the name, Forks Conservation Club.
