Record Auction, Catalogs, and Communication Collection
Collection Overview
Scope and Contents
Collection consists mainly of catalogs from record distributors, publishers, and some record stores; some of these catalogs were intended for individual consumers or collectors, but others were for the proprietors of record stores. Some folders also contain press releases, communication from labels and distributors, newsletters from labels, and new release notices; when there were many of these non-catalog items for a particular publisher, they have been arranged in separate folders, but they exist in snaller numbers in other folders, as well. Particularly notable in this collection are the many catalogs from niche or regional labels, as well as the many listings for record auctions. Many of these catalogs were used by MLBSSA staff to build the sound archives collection, particularly in the 1970s and 1980s.
