The collection consists of baptisms, first communions, confirmations, marriages, sick records, and deaths. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes within each series. Some records are in Latin, German or Spanish.

Parish History

St. Michael Catholic Church in Findlay, Ohio began as a Station of Tiffin, Ohio in 1839. In 1860, the parish's first church was completed. The church received its first resident pastor, Father John Roetzger, in 1859. The Parish school opened in 1860. In 1866, a fire destroyed the church, school and parochial residence. The current church replaced the one destroyed in the fire. It was completed in 1867. The parochial residence was rebuilt in 1875. The school building was rebuilt in 1894. In 1870, St. Michael became a Mission of Fostoria. It remained a Mission of Fostoria on and off until 1881, when Findlay received a resident pastor. From 1881 a resident pastor has served St. Michael Catholic Church.

There is a seventy (70) year access restriction on baptism and marriage records, which are on the second reel of microfilm. No restrictions apply to the remainder of this collection.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The records of St. Michael Catholic Church were transferred to the Center for Archival Collections for microfilming in March 2001 with the cooperation of Reverend Mike Hohenbrink of St. Michael Catholic Church and Frank Beier of the Catholic Diocese of Toledo, Ohio.
