Biographical / Historical

In 1871, a French-speaking church, St. Louis Catholic Church, was established on the east-side of Toledo. That same year the present church was built. St. Louis Catholic Church was assigned its first resident pastor in 1872. His name was Father Gauthier. The parish school was organized in 1880. This school was closed in 1970 because of low enrollment.

St. Louis Catholic Church is currently a member of the Emmaus Cluster with Good Shepherd Catholic Church and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The records of St. Louis Catholic Church were microfilmed in April 1998 with the cooperation of the church. Records microfilmed at that time included Baptisms (1872 - 1939), First Communions (1874 - 1897 and 1937 - 1997), Confirmations (1901 - 1997), Marriages (1874 - 1997) and Deaths (1896 - 1998). In February 2002, additional records containing Baptisms (May 1939 - April 2001) were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections with the cooperation of Reverend John R. Blaser of St. Louis Catholic Church.
