St. Boniface Catholic Church began as a Station of Peru, Ohio in 1834. In 1836, the parish built its first church and became a Mission of Tiffin. In 1841, the parish again became a Mission of Peru. In 1845, priests from the Precious Blood Society were stationed in New Riegel and began serving Missions and Stations from St. Boniface church. Among these were Tiffin, Upper Sandusky, Liberty, Alvada and St. Patrick Settlement.

By 1849, the congregation had outgrown the original log church and a new, brick church was built. In this same year the parish of St. Boniface received their first regular resident pastor.

The population of the parish grew steadily and by 1878 they built their third, and current, church. Over the next hundred years the parish expanded and many renovations of the church, rectory, and school occurred.

In 1981, St. Boniface became the sister parish of St. Peter Catholic Church in Alvada, Ohio and has remained so to the present.
