Biographical / Historical

A small number of Catholics began settling in the vicinity of Milan around 1860. The Catholics rented a small church in 1860, but could not find a priest to serve the parish. It was not until 1862 that the parish became a Station of Norwalk.

In 1865, the parish received their first resident priest, Father George Peter. Two years later, Father Peter left and the parish became a Mission of Peru. In 1869, St. Anthony received its second resident priest. Beginning in 1876, the parish began serving the Mission of Prout Station. This relationship only lasted until 1912, when the parish of Prout Station was discontinued.

In 1891, the interior of the church building was destroyed by fire. After the fire the church was remodeled. The church was completely renovated again in 1948.

Between 1978 and 1984, the Mission of Wakeman was placed under the care of St. Anthony.
