The collection consists of baptisms, first communions, confirmations, marriages, interments and deaths. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes within each series. (See order of microfilming for a detailed list of these records.) Some records for the years 1874 - 1884 can be found in a record book of St. Mary Catholic Church, Antwerp, Ohio, MS - 898 mf.

Biographical / Historical

The Catholic Church in Cecil, Ohio began a Station of Defiance in 1874. In 1875, the parish became a Station of Antwerp. In 1879, the parish built a church and its status changed from Station to Mission. The church was dedicated and named Immaculate Conception. In 1915, Immaculate Conception became a Mission of Delaware Bend.

In 1918, Immaculate Conception received their first resident priest, Father Peiffer. The church was assigned resident pastors until 1976, when the parish became a Mission of Paulding. In 1992, the parish was reassigned a resident pastor, again. In 1996, they became a sister parish of St. Mary Catholic Church.

The records of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1881 - 2001, were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403, in September 2001, with the cooperation of Father Herman F. Scherger of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
