Biographical / Historical
The church of Immaculate Conception began in 1852 as a Station of Holy Angels Church in Sandusky. In 1860, Immaculate Conception began being served from St. Mary Catholic Church. In May of 1860, the parish purchased a framed warehouse and converted it into a church. With the purchase of the church building, the status of the parish was changed from a Station to a Mission.
In 1861, the parish received their first resident priest, Father James Monahan.
In 1881, the parish realized the need for a larger, more modern church. In 1884, the parish's second church was completed. This church had improvements made throughout the years, but in 1965 the parish's present church was completed.
Since 1852, the parish of Immaculate Conception has experienced steady growth in the size of their congregation.
