Scope and Contents

The collection of the Stryker Women's Club contains material from 1950 - 1999. The collection consists of bylaws, membership documents, minutes, conference material, committee material, financial reports, scrapbooks and newspaper clippings, newsletters, and photographs.

The minutes of the monthly meetings contain the most specific information about the club's activities, projects, and policies. These minutes are complete from the years 1950 - 1970. The scrapbook of the Stryker Women's Club is also a valuable source of information on club activities for the years 1971 - 1991. However, for the years 1979 - 1999, the majority of the material in the collection pertains to the club's participation in the Northwestern Ohio Homemaker's Camp held annually at Camp Palmer in Fayette, Ohio. This material was not treated as a separate collection, but rather placed with club material in the corresponding record groups.

Biographical / Historical

The Stryker Women's Club was formed in Stryker, Ohio, on June 20, 1950. Besides being a forum for club members to share ideas and experiences, monthly meetings usually included presentations by a guest speaker or a club member, book reviews, or the showing of a film. Various club fund-raising events helped sponsor such early activities as the formation and sponsorship of a local Girl Scout Troop and the donation of clothes and eyeglasses to needy students. Another major event for the club was attending the annual Northwestern Ohio Homemaker's Camp at Camp Palmer in Fayette, Ohio.
