Scope and Contents

The records of the Findlay Y.M.C.A. consist mostly of its monthly newsletter “Our Young Men” from June 1890-January 1891 and June 1891-April 1893, programs from its 100th Anniversary in 1988, a copy of its articles of incorporation, a draft of its regulations from 1903, and other programs and brochures promoting the Y.M.C.A.

The monthly newsletters include treasurer’s reports, local advertisements, and articles about programs at the Y.M.C.A. and other interests.

The programs from the 100th Anniversary celebration give a detailed history of the Findlay Y.M.C.A. along with testimonials from members of years past.

The copy of its articles of incorporation is a later typewritten copy.

Its 1903 regulations appears to be a draft, as there are handwritten corrections and changes to it.

Biographical / Historical

The Findlay Y.M.C.A. was founded in September of 1888 when 375 young men each pledged $5 towards securing a location and operations for its first year, subsequent finds coming from local churches and businessmen. It was officially incorporated under Ohio Law in July of 1889, around the same time moving into its first building on East Main Cross Street. As the organization continued to grow, it moved into a larger building on East Sandusky Street, where it remained until a fire destroyed most of the building on February 28, 1960. After continuing to operate out of rented and borrowed spaces, the Y.MC.A. moved into its new building on E. Lincoln in 1964, where it remains today.
