Scope and Contents

The first portion of this collection (boxes 1-12) are from mostly mid-1971 to mid-1973. Given the variety of titles and roles held by Mr. Hof, they reflect some of the entirety of Mr. Hof's responsibilities, including his membership on the board of directors of Blue Cross and his role in public relations for the university. The second half of the collection (boxes 13-31) also reflect Mr. Hof's work as Vice President of Public Service, though the dates vary greatly and some items extend past Mr. Hof's service to BGSU. It is not know specifically what office these records came from, though possibly the Vice President for University Relations. Highlights of this second grouping include commencement planning files and a run of correspondence with the President from 1963-1978. The third set of records (boxes 32-39) are also believed to be from the same office and reflect additions to the collection in several batches. These files cover a wide scope of topics - annual reports, commencement files, Image task force meeting materials, accreditation, and WBGU-TV (the connection between WBGU and the Vice President for University Relations is unclear). Some of the materials in boxes 36-39 appear to have been the files of Richard Edwards, a Vice President and Assistant to the President.

Biographical / Historical

James E. Hof, Vice President for Public Service at Bowling Green State University, had a long affiliation with BGSU. He graduated from the university with a Bachelor's degree in 1950 and a master's degree in 1951, after which he worked very briefly as a speech instructor. In 1957, Hof rejoined the university, working a number of positions until June 1981. His titles included admissions officer, Vice President for Public Service, director of Alumni Services, Director of University Relations, and Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Development, among others. He also served as executive director of the BGSU Foundation, as well as an announcer for BGSU football games.
