Clarence Holman photograph collection
Collection Overview
Scope and Contents
The collection is composed of several sets of photographs depicting sailing vessels on the Great Lakes. Box 1 contains photographs of the J.T. WING, which may have been the last commercial sailing schooner to operate on the Great Lakes. Holman served aboard the schooner fom 1935-1937 as an able seaman and captured these photographs during his service. These images provide ample documentation of everyday life aboard, as well as other vessels encountered during the J. T. WING's cargo runs delivering pulp wood to paper mills in Green Bay, Wisconsin. An item-level inventory is available for the first portion of Box 1 and is linked from this finding aid under "External Documents".
Boxes 2 and 3 document Boy Scout sailing cruises aboard the vessels PREVAILING WINDS I and PREVAILING WINDS II in 1958, 1961-1964, and 2001. Additional photographs depict preparing the PREVAILING WINDS II for the sailing season in 1998 and 2001.

Biographical Sketch
