Biographical / Historical

In 1967, Ray Browne joined the English Department at Bowling Green State University. That same year he founded the Center for the Study of Popular Culture and The Journal of Popular Culture, the field’s first scholarly journal. The Center was granted department status in 1974, issuing both master's and undergraduate degrees, the first and still only graduate department in the country dedicated to the study of popular culture.
