Biographical / Historical

Little is known about this company, which appears to have been established in 1895 with the creation of stockholders meetings and regulations for the organization, as well as the election of a Board of Directors. Among those elected to the board were R. H. Block as chairman of the board and W. J. Aleshire as vice-president.

Oil had been discovered in Sandusky county in 1887 and for a period Gibsonburg was the center of the country’s oil industry; the second largest well on the continent was drilled outside Gibsonburg on the Benjamin Jones farm. However, the supply greatly diminished by the end of the century, which likely contributed to the demise of this cooperative.
