Scope and Contents

The Bowling Green State University Retirees Association (BGSURA) collection consists of one legal size archive box with proceedings, subject files, newsletters and photographs. The proceedings section gives detailed lists of the group membership along with some sporadic meeting minutes from the board of directors. The subject files contain convocation and activities programs along with the organization's constitution. The most important aspect of the collection is the run of newsletters detailing the group's activities and reflections on the past of Bowling Green State University. The photographs in the collection show members of the association and a picture of the first convocation.

Biographical / Historical

The Bowling Green State University Retirees Association (BGSURA) was organized in June 1995. The purpose of the group was varied, as they sought to deepen the friendships and associations of former faculty and staff through recreational and community activities, continue and foster a close liaison with Bowling Green State University for the general welfare and mutual benefits of each other, safeguard their members pension plans and convey care for each other. Membership was opened to all full-time and part-time faculty and staff who have worked at the University for at least five years. The society is also a member of the Ohio Council of Higher Education Retirees. The group continues to be an active member of the Bowling Green State University community. More information about the organization is available at the BGSURA website.
