Biographical / Historical
Ann Wrentmore Coffman wrote a master's thesis for fulfillment of her degree requirements at Bowling Green State University on Wallace Nutting and his pictures. She maintained subject and research files on the topic and was an active member of the Wallace Nutting Collector's Club, which was established in 1973 as a means for collectors and other interested individuals in the United States and Canada to learn more about the artist, his work, to communicate with each other, and to organize events of interest to collectors of Nutting related material.
Wallace Nutting (1861-1941) was an artist specializing in photographs, which he had hand-tinted, depicting New England scenery and colonial themed domestic situations. He also was involved in the study, collection, and reproduction of traditional American furniture of the colonial period, producing a multi-volume set, "Furniture Treasury" on the subject. Trained as a minister, he turned to art late in life when failing health curtailed his pastoral duties.
