Collection Organization
The main part of the collection is composed of 731 color photographic slides of Great Lakes vessels dating from 1962 to 1984. All images, 2.75” and 35mm, were taken by Waldron Newman. Slides are separated into two boxes based on size, with each box being arranged alphabetically. An item-level inventory of the slides is linked to this finding aid in the External Documents section.
The collection also contains two scrapbooks compiled by Newman. He was a ham radio operator and correspondended with radio station peronnel regarding programs he could receive during their broadcasts. The first scrapbook (1933-1963) contains correspondence, photographs, and radio station promotional literature from Hawaii, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Texas. Stations in Canada, Europe, Japan, and Latin America are also represtented.
The second scrapbook (1938-1958) contains material similar to that in the first one for Indiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.
