Abstract
The daybooks, dating from April 1857 to July 1867, record Dr. Herrmann's charges for visits (including mileage), diagnosis, treatment, and prescriptions. In the back of each daybook, Dr. Herrmann recorded the number of confinements, it is assumed for the time period of each daybook. The ledger, dating from 1857 to 1866 includes the doctor's accounting information (charges and payments), listed by the patient's name. Many times the payment is listed in terms of agricultural products or labor in addition to regular cash payments. Also included in the front of the ledger is an index and a genealogy of the Ewing family.
