Scope and Contents

The first ledger documents Dr. Mapes' house visits, charges incurred and the methods of payment made (cash, work, livestock, crops, cutting wood, produce, etc.) as he practiced in the Ottawa County area. This ledger dates from 1898 to 1915. A small book indexes this ledger as well as an index which appears in the front of the ledger. A second ledger documents Dr. Mapes' work as the company physician at the Kelley's Island Lime and Transport Company, from April 1914 to May 1915. Receipts and bills, most of which were for medical supplies, dating from 1896 to 1907, complete this collection.
