Scope and Contents

The OhiOntario International Friendship Games collection consists primarily of information relating to the organization and proceedings of the Games dating from 1992 to 2007. This information is mostly organizational meeting minutes, correspondence between various officers, schedules, financial documents, programs, pictures and artifacts from the Games that document the Games from their earliest planning stages until the disbandment of the Organizing Committee.

The OhiOntario International Friendship Games Collection also contains information about St. Thomas, the sister city relationship between St. Thomas and Bowling Green, and information from other conferences and games such as the International Games Conference.

Biographical / Historical

The OhiOntario International Friendship Games were held from 1994 to 2001. They were created to "demonstrate a community approach to international goodwill by promoting active living in the sister cities of St. Thomas, Ontario, and Bowling Green, Ohio." The following were the aims of the Games:

  1. To encourage maximum participation in all eligible age categories in amateur recreational competition between St. Thomas and Bowling Green
  2. To develop and maintain community support of the Games from the public, the industrial and business sectors, and service organizations
  3. To provide the opportunity for cultural exchange between the two cities
  4. To share valuable resources, both physical and human, in each community
  5. To emphasize the importance of participating over the importance of winning
