Abstract
This collection includes a series of handwritten diaries recorded on composition notebooks, daily entry calendars, and journals from the 1930s through the early 1970s. The diaries document the daily life of the Hazel Mae Bailey Long and her household in Paulding County in Northwest Ohio. The diaries have scrapbook materials included periodically, such as newspaper clippings, dried leaf or flower pressings, correspondence and holiday cards, household records, and miscellaneous memorabilia such as wedding napkins. Included in the collection are various loose scrapbook material which is believed to have fallen out of the diaries. There are also records from the family farm. It is unclear whether these were originally contained in the diaries or maintained separately.

Content Description
The Hazel Mae Bailey Long diaries provides insight into the daily life of a woman and her family residing in Paulding County in Northwest Ohio during the early to mid-20th century. The scrapbook materials included in the collection provide additional context to the author’s diary entries and often provide a glimpse into the social life of Northwest Ohio through the inclusion of newspaper clippings. The household records in the collection document the management of a rural household and family farm in the mid-20th century.
Biographical / Historical
Hazel Mae Bailey Long (1894-1977) was a lifelong resident of Paulding County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Oliver Perry Bailey (1861-1919) and Adaline A. Stump (1864-1930). She married Minor Lloyd Long (1890-1964) in 1933 with whom she had at least six children. Together they managed a family farm. Hazel is buried in Paulding, Ohio.
