Abstract

The collection consists of baptisms*, first communions, confirmations, marriages* and deaths. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes within each series. (See order of microfilming for a detailed list of these records.) There is one record book from Nazareth Hall that include baptisms, first communions and confirmations from 1929 through 1980.

Biographical / Historical

St. Patrick Catholic Church began as a Station of Tiffin in 1831. In 1837, the care of the Station was transferred to Cincinnati. In 1839, it was switched back to Tiffin. In 1849, the Station of St. Patrick was served by St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Toledo. In 1845, the parish built their first church. With the building of the church the status of the parish was changed from a Station to a Mission. In 1850, the care of the Mission fell to Maumee.

Beginning in 1854, St. Patrick Catholic Church was served by a resident priest. The parish's first resident priest was Father Louis J. Filiere. In 1857, the parish reverted back to being a Mission of Maumee because the priest of St. Patrick died and the diocese could no appoint a resident priest until 1861. The resident priest assigned in 1861 was transferred to Napoleon in 1864. Between 1869 and 1890, St. Patrick was again served by resident priests, but this would be the last period of time that the parish would have its own priest. In 1890, the parish became a Mission of Bowling Green and then in 1893, a Mission of Holgate.

In 1889, a fire broke out in the rectory, destroying all the early records of this parish. The Church was remodeled. In 1954, the church was enlarged from a seating capacity of 125 to 260. A basement was also built underneath the church for catechetical and parish meetings.

Beginning in 1928 and lasting through 1982, a school for boys was opened. It was called Nazareth Hall. It was located in Grand Rapids, Ohio. It was served by the priest from St. Patrick.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The records of Saint Patrick Catholic Church were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections in October 2001 with the cooperation of Father Anthony Gallagher of Saint Patrick Catholic Church.
