Scope and Contents

The collection consists of correspondence, subject files on the Falcon Hunter’s picnic recruitment event, annual reports, special reports, and promotional materials/publications.

Biographical / Historical

The placement of students in career positions after graduation from BGSU has been recorded as a service of the university since around 1930. At that time the institution focused primarily on teacher education, and placement was accomplished by faculty of the Education Department. The dean of the College of Education, Dr. Clyde Hissong, served as the first Placement Director. As the University diversified, Dr. Walter Zaugg was appointed as the first director of the Placement Bureau. The Career Center has been know over the years by various titles, including: Placement Bureau, Bureau of Appointments, Placement Office, Career Planning and Placement Services, and Career Services.

The Career Center helps students explore career and major options, identify and secure cooperative education and internship experiences, and search for job and graduate school opportunities. It provides employers with a variety of recruiting services to connect with BGSU students, including job and internship fairs, on-campus interviews, resume referrals, and online job postings.
