Biographical / Historical

Dr. Paul H. Lindenmeyer was born in Bucyrus, Ohio, May 4, 1921. He earned his bachelor's of science degree at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) and a PhD in physical chemistry at Ohio State University (OSU) in 1951. Lindenmeyer was an assistant professor at OSU from 1946-1946 and a research assistant from 1949-1951. Between 1951 and 1959, Lindenmeyer worked for the Visking Company as a research chemist, a research supervisor, and eventually the Pioneering Research department manager. After resigning from the Visking Company, Lindenmeyer was the manager of fiber science at Chemstrand Research Center from 1959-1969. Then, he was the head of the material science lab at the Boeing Company, 1969-1973, the material research program director of the National Science Foundation, 1973-1975, and the senior scientist from 1977-1988. Lindenmeyer was President of Dynamic Material Corporation after 1982 and a material research consultant after 1975. He was a Royal Society Visitor Fellow in science and technology at the University of Manchester, 1983-1984. He was a member of the American Association of the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Fiber Society, American Chemical Society, American Physical Society (APS), and the American Crystallographic Association (ACA). His research interests include X-ray, crystallography, spectroscopy, microscopy, crystal growth and structure of high polymers, materials processing, irreversible thermodynamics, and material properties. Paul Lindenmeyer died August 3, 1991.
