Scope and Contents

The Bloomdale Photographic collection consists of over four hundred images documenting life in Bloomdale, Ohio from 1888-1988. The prints are stored in a separate folder but follow the same numbering sequence of the negatives. When applicable, a page number relating to the text has been identified.

Biographical / Historical

The village of Bloomdale, Ohio was platted in 1852 as the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad expanded into further into Wood County. The village was incorporated in 1887.

The time period of the collection spans the hundred years of the town; however, the bulk of the documented images are circa early 1900s. Events and scenes documented by these images include the geographic landscape, agriculture, architecture, oil rigs, early farming, school scenes, church and community activities and groups, as well as several “candid” shots of members of the town, highlighting interior decorations, clothing, and vehicles of the town. All of these images showcase the social atmosphere of small town Midwest.

The images contained in this collection were gathered primarily by Lynette “Net” and Elmer “Mac” McCullough to celebrate Bloomdale’s history and used in conjunction with “The History of the Bloomdale, Ohio Area Families 1888-1989.”
