Scope and Contents
The bulk of the Christopher Cullis collection consists of letters to the Bryan Times editor from 1985 to 2007. Topics discussed in the letters to the editor include local politics and tax levies, the Williams County Fair and the Fulton County Fair, prayer and proficiency tests in schools, the Regan and Clinton administrations and Congressional races, and national conversations regarding incarceration rates, alcohol and drug abuse, labor rights, and women's rights. The collection also features a small number of family movies in original and DVD formats circa 1949 to 1960.
Biographical / Historical
Christopher Cullis is the publisher of the Bryan Times. A native of Bryan, Ohio, he graduated from Bryan High School in 1975 and Bowling Green State University in 1979. He has worked at the Bryan Times since 1981, and his family has owned The Bryan Times since its inception.
The Bryan Times is a daily newspaper based in Bryan, Ohio. It was established on February 2, 1949, after the merger of The Bryan Democrat and The Bryan Press. On September 12, 1949, it became a daily newspaper delivered six days per week, Monday through Saturday, making it the 100th daily newspaper in Ohio. The Bryan Times is Williams County’s only daily newspaper, covering Williams County and rural northwest Ohio, with a circulation of 10,000 in 2021. The Bryan Times is a publication of The Bryan Publishing Company, which also publishes the Napoleon Northwest Signal, The Countyline and Realty Northwest.
In 1923, Cass Cullis purchased The Democrat and his son, Ford Cullis, joined him in operating the newspaper in 1945 and helped with finalizing the 1949 merger. Crass Cullis was the co-publisher of the Bryan Times from 1949 until his death in 1980; Ford Cullis served as co-publisher until his death in 2008. Christopher Cullis joined the Times in June 1981 as the assistant publisher and became co-publisher in 1992. Following his father's death in 2008, Christopher Cullis became the sole publisher. In 2010 Kimberly Cullis Imm joined her father as assistant publisher, bringing the Times into its fourth generation of Cullis management.
