Scope and Contents
The Marie Elizabeth Newlove diaries span from 1932-1978 in three volumes. Early on Newlove's wrote in her diary daily, though as time went on, entries became much more scattered. Her diary entries center around her life in Rudolph, Ohio and focus on her teaching and family life. The entries not only describe life during the Great Depression and post-war era, but she also comments on the difficult conditions of the time.
Biographical / Historical
Marie Elizabeth Newlove was born to Joseph Newlove and Rosa (Wegschneider) Newlove in 1907 in Rudolph, Ohio where she lived her entire life as a local school teacher. She attended Liberty/Westwood High School in Rudolph in her youth. The oldest of nine children, Newlove wrote about her everyday life during the Great Depression and the post-war era. Many of her family members suffered during this time trying to find work and some of her brothers served in World War II. Marie Elizabeth Newlove died in 1996.
