The Bowling Green Kiwanis Club records documents the activities of the Bowling Green, Ohio chapter of the international organization. The collection is mainly comprised of meeting minutes ranging from 1937-2006, correspondence from 1949-1986, and organizational newsletters from 1982-2006. The collection is organized by subject type and is in chronological order. There are also several oversized items including scrapbooks, annual report books, a workbook of membership information, certificates and proclamations, and memorabilia.
Biographical / Historical
The Kiwanis chapter in Bowling Green, Ohio was founded in 1921 and is the oldest and largest service club in Bowling Green. The club currently meets at the Wood County Senior Center and sponsors several community youth programs such as the Circle K club at Bowling Green State University and the Key clubs at both Bowling Green and Eastwood High Schools. The club also participates in many community events, including the Black Swamp Arts Festival, living history day at the Wood County Museum, and several Bowling Green youth sports programs.
Kiwanis International was formed in 1915 in Detroit, Michigan; it began as business networking organization but in 1919 changed its focus to serving children. The organization became international in 1916 with a chapter opening in Hamilton, Ontario. Kiwanis continued to grow in communities across the continent until the 1960’s when worldwide expansion began.
