The Beta Sigma Phi records consist primarily of scrapbooks from various chapters of the organization dating from 1957 to 2005. These scrapbooks include newspaper clippings, programs, photographs and other memorabilia that document the organization’s activities and events.

The collection also includes chapter meeting minutes, records, newspaper clippings and photographs, as well as a 75th anniversary book and proclamations from the mayor of Bowling Green regarding Beta Sigma Phi Founder’s Day.

Biographical / Historical

Beta Sigma Phi is a non-academic sorority founded in Kansas in 1931. It is primarily a social and cultural organization that also incorporates service as part of its activities. The Beta Sigma Phi motto is Life, Learning and Friendship, as these are the basic goals of the organization. Cultural programs are important elements of the organization and are designed to broaden personal knowledge and understanding of self, friends, and the world. Today there are over 200,000 members and over 12,500 chapters of Beta Sigma Phi around the world.

There are currently five chapters of Beta Sigma Phi in Bowling Green, Ohio: Xi Gamma Kappa, Laureate Beta Theta, Alpha Delta Master, Alpha Epsilon Master and Alpha Zeta Master.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The collection was donated to the Center for Archival Collections on February 2, 2006, by Millie Broka with many subsequent additions.
