Scope and Contents

This collection of the Northwest District of the Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs can be seen as a companion to several of the Women’s Clubs collections held within the archive, including the Woman’s Club of Bowling Green (MS-186). As the intermediary between the local clubs and the national Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs, the Northwest District is responsible for regional OFWC operations and providing support to both the local clubs and the state organization.

The minutes, correspondence, and other materials included here highlight the work of the Northwest District and the Lakeside Federation. When viewed in conjunction with other material available through the archive, the collection can assist researchers in developing a better understanding of the inner workings and the organizational structures of the OFWC.

Biographical / Historical

The Northwest District of the Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs is one of five current districts in the organizational structure of the Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs. Each district is designated geographically, with the Northwest District overseeing local clubs in Northwest and North Central Ohio cities. Though there are few clubs still in operation, including the Woman’s Club of Bowling Green, the Northwest District historically served clubs in several cities in the Northwest Ohio region.

Included in the subject files of this collection is a small selection of the records of the Lakeside Federation of Women’s Clubs, which united several clubs in the Northwest and Lake Erie Districts. Working within the organizational structure of the OFWC, this regional Federation operated under an executive board made of up members from the federated clubs and hosted annual conventions for its members.
