Biographical / Historical

St. Peter Catholic Church began as a Mission of St. Boniface in New Riegel, Ohio in 1857. Between 1857 and 1913 Alvada was called Big Spring Settlement.

The parish built their first church in October, 1858 and their current church in 1881.

Until 1914, St. Peter Catholic Church was a Mission of New Riegel. Between 1914 and 1981, the priest shared by St. Peter and St. Boniface lived in Alvada, making New Riegel a Mission of Alvada. In 1981, the priest moved back to New Riegel and Alvada became a Mission of New Riegel once again.

The records of St. Peter Catholic Church were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403, in August 2001, with the cooperation of Father Leonard Kistler of St. Peter Catholic Church.
