Abstract The records in this collection partially document the operations of two canals constructed between 1860 and 1873 to connect Keweenaw Bay on the east side of the Keweenaw Peninsula to Lake Superior on the west. Abstract

This collection contains files on vessel construction design projects completed by Richard A. Stearn's naval architecture firm. Projects are generally from the period 1940-1950. Stearn participated in the design phase of numerous military vessels during World War II and in their postwar conversion to civilian uses. Correspondence and architectural drawings are the principal components of the project files on each vessel.
