WDIF-FM Scrapbook Collection

The collection consists of 4 scrapbooks that cover WDIF’s personnel and audience information, achievements, and programming throughout the year in the early 1980s. These scrapbooks were compiled by WDIF employees for inclusion in application packets for yearly station awards, including the Station of the Year award from Billboard magazine.

The scrapbooks document the station personnel and management each year, and contain some information about station programming, including photographs and brief biographies of show hosts, information about music programming, descriptions of special programs or contests run by the station, information about companies that purchase advertisements on the station, and some information about station reach and audience demographics. WDIF had an active news team in the early 1980s, so major local and regional news stories covered by the team are featured in the scrapbooks, some with accompanying photographs. Some scrapbooks also include information on WDIF's community involvement, including community awards sponsored by the station and lectures, festivals, or other events in which the station or its employees participated.

Scrapbook contains black and white as well as colored photographs of the WDIF building, staff, conventions, contests, and events such as the Clean Sweep contest. Also included are documents detailing radio content descriptions, broadcasting coverage, programming, and special reports. A section on the Kids for Christmas campaign includes a campaign description, colored photographs, and promotional documents. Several promotional flyers, sales and marketing documents are included. Also included in this box are two oversized "year in review" flyers, for 1982, and 1994.

A letter summarizing the scrapbook to the radio programming editor and an entry form from Billboard is attached to the first page of the scrapbook.

The scrapbook contains information about WDIF's listenership in 1982, including a WDIF listener profile created by Marion Technical College for the station, and demographic information from the Birch report, a national telephone-based radio ratings service, along with some background information on the history and processes of the Birch report. A booklet on the super shopper card is included and details how customers can use it in businesses.

Scrapbook includes black and white photographs of the station offices and staff members, information about the station and its mission, documentation of station programming, news events covered and special events hosted throughout the year. Also included is an advertising booklet for special programming, a WDIF bumper sticker, and a 1984 Marion area community date calendar.
