Scope and Contents

This collection contains cassette tapes of new music performances from the 1980s-90s. Beck collected teh materials from composers throughout the 80s and 90s while based in NYC and New Haven, and also while travelling in St. Petersburg, Russia. Most of the performances are live. Some of the composers featured on the tapes include Dan Becker, Jennifer Higdon, Scott Lindroth and Thomas Oboe Lee. The information available on each tape is inconsistent: some include performers and performance dates, while others only include the composer and work or works performed.

Biographical / Historical

Dr. Jeremy Beck (b. 1960) is an American composer originally from Ohio. His music has been performed internationally and has earned awards, grants, and honors from many ensembles and organizations.

Beck earned a B.S. in Composition from the Mannes College of Music (1984), a M.A. from Duke University (1989), and a second Masters and D.M.A. from Yale School of Music (1992, 1995). He studied with numerous distinguished composers including David Loeb, Thomas Oboe Lee, and Jacob Druckman. After teaching at various universities throughout the late 90s, Beck decided to persue a J.D. degree, and now is a practicing attourny in Kentucky. He focuses on entertainment law, emphasising on copyright, trademark, and contracts.
