Collection Overview
Scope and Contents
Collection consists of analog audio discs containing radio commercials, jingles, and other advertising content, largely from the late 1950s through the 1970s. Most of the collection is composed of 12-inch discs; items that are 10-inch discs are noted as such. The collection contains many ad campaigns that seem to be national and others that are specific to Ohio, either national ads tailored to a local market or advertisements for local or state goods and services. Most items contain several short advertisements, and sometimes feature related content or several versions of ads for a particular campaign. Fewer discs contain longer programs, such as public service announcements.
In addition to the audio content, some items also contain printed information to assist disc jockeys and station managers, such as transcripts, sample lead-ins, and other printed guides. Finally, some items also contain notes about advertisements written directly on the disc labels by radio station personnel, including appraisal of the quality of the advertisements, or notes on air dates or the frequency with which the items should be aired.
