Scope and Contents

This collection includes several series documenting the planning and execution of the conference titled "The Future of Popular Culture Studies in the 21st Century." The Proceedings series includes conference planning committee minutes, agenda and miscellaneous memoranda. The Correspondence series consists of letters regarding general conference planning, funding, and communication with speakers and conference participants. The Subject Files series focuses on fundraising and program revisions for the conference. The Reports series consists of a conference income and expense summary, providing a brief overview of cost and revenue. The Literary Productions series includes session proposals for the conference that were accepted, revised, or rejected as well as speakers' bios, conference papers and testimonials. The Lists series includes a roster of conference attendees, speakers, and mailing lists. The final two series, Printed Material and Photographic Material, includes publicity, press release clippings, packets, and a photo of Ray Browne.

Biographical / Historical

"The Future of Popular Culture Studies in the 21st Century" was the title of the conference honoring the retirement of Professor Ray B. Browne of Bowling Green State University's Department of Popular Culture, which Browne established in 1973. The conference took place on June 4-6, 1992, at Bowling Green State University.
