The Steve Sherman Papers include two annotated copies of the literary manuscript for The Maple Sugar Murders, including editor’s notes and suggested changes, both typewritten and in several different handwritings. One of the copies is on yellow paper and contains the handwritten inscription, “Finished May ‘86”. The other copy is on white paper, with a typed title page.

Biographical / Historical

Steve Sherman was born July 26, 1938 in Los Angeles, California. Prior to becoming a full-time author, Mr. Sherman was a teacher in California and Alaska, a reference librarian at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, and a reporter for the Anchorage Daily News. He relocated to New Hampshire in 1971 and began a career as a freelance writer authoring works on topics as diverse as libraries and wood stoves, as well as books on hiking by bicycle and through-hiking the Appalachian Trail. He also published in national and specialty magazines.

Mr. Sherman’s first novel, The Maple Sugar Murders, was published in 1987 and was the first of his New England Cozy series, of which there are currently two other books, Primary Crime (2000) and Highboy (2001). Published copies of each of these books are available for review at the Browne Popular Culture Library.
