Scope and Contents
The Velda Johnston Papers consist of manuscripts for three of the author's works. Typed manuscripts and galley proofs of the novels Along a Dark Path (1968), House Above Hollywood (1968), and A Howling in the Woods (1968) are included. These three novels are the first three published by Johnston, illustrating her early process.
Biographical / Historical
Velda Johnston Heslop (1912-1997) was writer of Gothic romance novels. She also wrote under the pseudonym Veronica Jason. Born and raised in California, Johnston attended UCLA for Journalism. She later relocated to New York City with her husband, Robert Heslop. Her first novel Along a Dark Path was published in 1968, and she wrote more than 35 novels between then and 1991. Her novel A Howling in the Woods was made into a TV movie in 1971, starring Barbara Eden and Larry Hagman.
