Scope and Contents
The Sylvie Kurtz Papers contain manuscripts, correspondence, proofs, galleys, notes, promotional items, and reviews, dating from 1996-2005. The novel manuscripts make up the largest part of the collection. Because of the completeness of this series, the researcher can trace the evolution of many of her works from story outlines to publication. Also included are notes on character development and revisions. In addition, there are interviews with the author.
The manuscript materials are organized chronologically by the date of publication. The materials related to each book may have varying dates or be undated.
Correspondence is also included in the collection. Editorial correspondence (1999-2002) contains her correspondence with editors, other writers and research resources. Reader correspondence (1999-2002 plus undated) contains personal opinions and questions from the public.
Biographical / Historical
Sylvie Kurtz made the decision to become a writer while flying an eight hour solo flight across the country in a Piper Arrow plane. She realized that the stories from her imagination were more entertaining than a pilot's life. Although she went on to earn her pilot's license, she began to write down her fictional adventures and submit them for publication.
She has published more than 30 romance and suspense novels. Her work has been nominated for awards by Romantic Times, including “Best First--Category Romance”, “Best Harlequin Intrigue” and the Romantic Times Bookclub Magazine “Career Achievement for Series Romantic Adventure.” Kurtz's books frequently include recipes that relate to characters in the book.
