This collection is comprised of Kenneth Davison's papers relating to his time as an officer of both the national and Ohio-Indiana American Studies Associations. Dr. Davison served as treasurer of both organizations, so much of the collection relates to the financial health of the organization at the time. However, business meeting minutes, conference proceedings and materials, and other materials related to the history of both organizations are included as well.

The collection encompasses the years 1956-1981, with the bulk dating from 1956-1977.

This collection will be of interest to those interested in the evolving field of American Studies, especially as it relates to important professional organizations in the field.

Biographical / Historical

Dr. Kenneth E. Davison received his B.A. from Heidelberg College in 1946 and his PhD. from Western Reserve University in 1953. He taught at Heidelberg University from 1952-1989, serving as the Chair of the American Studies Department from 1967-1989.

During his career, Dr. Davison served as the treaurer of both the Ohio-Indiana American Studies Association and the national American Studies Association. He was also involved in the National American Studies Faculty, a group charged with evaluating American Studies programs.

Dr. Davison has written several books on Ohio history as well as the life and presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes. He donated his research materials on Rutherford B. Hayes to the Hayes Presidential Library and Museum in Freemont, Ohio in 1998.
