Scope and Contents

The Glenda Sanders Papers consists of copy edited typescripts for many of the author's works, as well as galleys, book cover art forms, synopses, and one short story. Several floppy disks can be found at the ned of the collection. They have not been inspected for content, but presumably contain versions of the manuscripts listed.

The manuscripts in this collection are ordered by the book's date of publication, not necessarily when they were written. Nearly all of the materials in the collection are undated.

Researchers interested in the contemporary romance novel and in the process of romance publication during the 1980s and 1990s will find this collection useful.

Biographical / Historical

Glenda Sanders (1948-2008) was born in Orange, Texas, to Everett Franklin Sanders and Dorothy Jo Cooper Sanders on September 18, 1948. She graduated in 1970 from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. Ms. Saunders freelanced as a magazine and newspaper writer prior to writing fiction.

In 1983, Glenda published her first novel, Rose under her married name, Glenda S. Kachelmeier. In 1984 she published her first novel for Silhouette, The Mockingbird Suite, under the name Glenda Sands. In 1989, after writing 11 books for Silhouette, she began writing for Harlequin's Temptation line as Glenda Sanders. By the time she stopped writing romance in 1997, she had written more than 30 books, including two stand-alone titles for Avon.

Sanders returned to newspaper reporting for The Daily Sun in Lady Lakes, Florida in 1998 where she wrote color features, personality profiles, news stories, entertainment reviews, general features and a column, "Meanderings of a Middle-Aged Mind." Glenda Sanders died January 17, 2008.

Awards for Ms. Sanders work include a 1991 RITA award from the Romance Writers of America for her Harlequin Temptation novel A Human Touch and the Maggie Award from the Georgia Romance Writers, also for A Human Touch.
